Fish Woes

They say when it rains it pours. I just assume that April Fool’s Day is a month long ordeal that is stretching into May for me. I have been meaning to post about how I see society today for over a week. I have been so busy and tied up with things that I did not have a chance. I was sick, S got really sick and to top it off my fish got sick!

Those that know me, know that I am a fish geek. I adore fish and love keeping them. It is rewarding for me and relaxing. I sit in front of my 55gl tank often and just watch them do their fishy kind of thing. They make me laugh.

Last Friday I noticed one of my Clown Loaches flashing but it looked healthy. I did notice a Bleeding Heart Tetra with a few Ich spots. I have mostly scaleless fish so using medications in my tank is very touchy. I tried the heat/salt method and it just exploded. My tank stunk of dead fish and I lost many. I lost all my Spotted Pictus cats. Whiskers, Nasdaq and my sister’s pictus that moved in Jethro and Sherman. I was heartbroken. I then lost all 5 of my Clown Loaches and all three of my Bleeding Heart Tetras, 1 White Skirt Tetra and 5 Serpae Tetra.

I had / I lost

4 Spotted Pictus – All four are dead
5 Clown Loaches – All five are dead
8 White Skirt Tetra – One died
8 Serpae Tetra – Five died
1 Common Pleco – He was sick but is still with me.
3 Glow Light Tetra – All three have been fine.
1 Apple Snail – moved to the 10gl tank and is fine
2 Four Line Pictus – My “babies” are fine.

I don’t know why it was so selective. My Four Lines are just a larger version of a Spotted Pictus they look the same pretty much. The Fourlines are darker and get bigger. They never showed a sign of a problem. They are as normal as can be. I moved them to my 10gl which really pissed them off. They were making their “barking” noises so loud and so pissed going into that small tank but I had to remove them from the water in the 55gl that had become so unstable. They are still in the 10gl and dealing. I can’t turn the light on. They freak out. Bubbles the Betta was removed from the 10gl and put in a 5gl bucket. He is sulking.

My Serpae were hit hard where as my White Skirts I only lost one. My Glow Light Tetra never looked sick or had a problem. It was just strange. I treated for Ich when I think there was a bacteria that was taking them out. *sigh*

I have not lost a fish in over 24hrs so I am hoping we are going uphill now. I will be changing out my gravel for sand now since most of the stuff in my tank has been removed and I have a low bioload of fish now on the 55gl. I wanted to switch to sand and this is a great chance.

I also do not plan to go with more Spotted Pictus they are taken out to fast by illness and medications are too hard on them. I think I may go with some larger freshwater sharks in place of the Spotted Pictus and Clown Loaches.

  2. I own the Sony F828, good camera but has its flaws.

The best camera in my eyes to buy if you want good features and good quality is the Canon 30D or you can pick up a 20D for less money since the 30D came out. The 30D is an upgraded 20D is all. You will spend $1200-$1600 on it but it is well worth the money if you want to be serious about your photos.

The Sony F828 is under 1k now. I paid $1000 for it when it was newer. It is still a good camera and gives you great prints for the money but not larger prints as there is more noise compared to the Canon.

Hope this helps. I know they are not cheap but you get what you pay for with digital cameras :)
